Larry Lee Taylor, 82, passed away at his home in The Dalles, Ore., on November 28, 2015. He was born in Dufur, Ore., to Vera Lillian (Vogel) and Malcolm Harvey Taylor on October 30, 1933. Larry served in the United States Army during the Korean War.
He worked as a millwright for Mt. Fir Lumber Company in Tygh Valley, Ore., for 23 years then for Hanel Mill in Odell, Ore. After retiring from the lumber mill, Mr. Taylor worked for Ray Schultens Ford in The Dalles. He was a member of the Eagles Lodge and a Northern Pike Minnow member. Larry enjoyed fishing, playing pool and shuffleboard, dancing and country music.
Survivors include his children Elizabeth Leon of The Dalles, Jim Shanklin of Pendleton, Ore., Robert Shanklin (Marlene) of Rockaway Beach, Ore., Sandy George of Phoenix, Ariz., and Anthony Shanklin of Fort Worth, Texas; brothers Jack Taylor of Tygh Valley, Jim Taylor of Sutherland, Ore., and Tom Taylor of Dufur; sisters Bev Reed of Dufur and Tut Waters of The Dalles; 8 grandchildren in which Katelyn, Carley, and Timarra of The Dalles and 4 great grandchildren including Giovanni of The Dalles.
He was preceded in death by brothers Don Taylor, Gene Taylor and Harry Taylor. A celebration of life potluck will be held at the Eagles Lodge in The Dalles on Saturday, December 19 at 2 p.m. The family suggests memorial contributions to Heart of Hospice, 508 Washington St. The Dalles, OR 97058.
