She opened a private practice for family and marriage counseling in 1986 and also worked at the Department of Mental Health throughout her time in South Carolina.
After Alex left for college, Martha and Joe moved to The Dalles, Oregon, to be closer to Martha’s family. She worked at Comprehensive Mental Health in Goldendale, Washington for many years.
Martha served on the board and the nominating committee at both of her UU churches, and was active in many other programs. She was also active with the SMART program in The Dalles, teaching children to read.
An avid hiker and camper, Martha brought her love of the outdoors to tending her backyard garden. As a member of The Dalles Country Club, she enjoyed playing golf as often as possible.
