On Saturday, January 24, 2015. Gary Lee Chapman, 62, of The Dalles, Oregon completed his life's journey and went home to Heaven to be with his Lord.
Gary started his journey on August 20, 1952 in Pendleton, Oregon born to John and Mary (Freese) Chapman. He lived in Pilot Rock, Oregon until the age of six. He then moved to Mosier, Oregon and graduated from Wahtonka High School in 1971. Gary served in the U.S. Army with the 720th Military Police Battalion at Fort Hood, Texas. After his discharge from the Army, Gary attended Mt. Hood Community College. Gary worked in the lumber industry for ten years and at Napa Auto Parts in The Dalles for ten years. Gary spent the next thirteen years as a custodian at Dry Hollow Elementary School until his retirement in 2012. On October 7, 2006 he and Lori Montour were married. Gary was a member of First Christian Church of The Dalles. He enjoyed woodworking, vintage cars, camping and baking chocolate chip cookies.
Gary was preceded in death by his parents and sister Delora.
He is survived by his wife Lori, son Michael Chapman, son Benjamin Chapman, granddaughter Madelyn, brother Eugene Chapman, sister Wanda Nyquist (Dean), nephew Brenden (Erica), and niece Heidi Eberz (Scott). He will be especially missed by his faithful canine companion Daisy Mae.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday February 7, 2015 at 11:00 A.M. At First Christian Church of The Dalles.
Private family interment was at I.O.O.F. Threemile Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made in his name to Heart of Hospice.
