Gordon Lemley passed away due to complications from pneumonia on Saturday morning, January 24, 2015 at his winter home in Yuma, Arizona. He was 89 years old. He died in the presence of his wife, children, their spouses, his sister and her husband.
He reluctantly left behind his wife, Carol, his sister Carolyn Lemley Stump and her husband David, his son Kenneth Lemley and his wife Louise, his daughter Janice Lemley Miller and her husband Royce, his son Allan Lemley and his wife Amanda, his son Craig Colquitt and his wife Korenna, his son Kurt Lemley, 11 grand-children, 7 great-grand-children and all the friends and family who loved him.
Gordon Arzell Lemley was born in a rented farmhouse just outside the small town of Grass Valley, Oregon on October 12, 1925. As the oldest of four children, a lifelong farmer and rancher, and a member of a Greatest Generation, he consistently met his hardships with an enviable blend of determination and dry wit. Through the great depression, childhood polio, the loss of two infant children and two wives, all who knew him to be quick to lend a hand, slow to judge another, unquestionably fair and a firm believer that it was simply bad manners to either complain, brag or have a low self-esteem.
Services will be held on Saturday, February 7, 2015 at 3:00 PM at the Spencer, Libby and Powell Funeral Home, 1100 Kelly Avenue, The Dalles, OR, with a public reception directly following at The Dalles Elks Lodge, 2620 West 2nd Street. A graveside service and interment will be held on Sunday, February 8, 2015 at 11am at the Grass Valley Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that a donation by made to either the Sherman County Historical Society or the Shriners Hospital for Children in Portland.
