Long-time resident of The Dalles, Elpha (Pete) Hall, 91, peacefully died of pneumonia with family members by her side, on January 8, 2015 at Mid-Columbia Medical Center in The Dalles.
Elpha was born February 26, 1923 to Hugh and Lurena Remington of The Dalles. She was raised on the 1916 family wheat ranch in the Sleepy Hollow area and graduated in the class of 1941 at The Dalles High School. Upon graduating she worked for The Dalles phone company as an operator.
In 1943 she married her sweetheart, Donald (Don) Hall, also of The Dalles. Together they raised three children. In 1959 they moved to Milton-Freewater where her husband owned and operated Don Hall Ford Dealership. They moved back to The Dalles in 1968 to be closer to their parents and family. Don and Pete were active volunteers and believed in contributing to the communities where they lived and worked.
Elpha was involved in numerous volunteer organizations; The Milton-Freewater Election Board, Ladies Lions Auxiliary in The Dalles, Fort Dalles Rodeo Association, Salvation Army, Mid-Columbia Medical Center Volunteer and Wasco County Pioneers. She was delighted to share Co-Grand Marshall with her husband for the 1996 Fort Dalles Rodeo and Parade. She loved sharing time with her animals, her family and friends. She also enjoyed her daily crosswords and word puzzles, in addition to spending time outdoors and crafting parties.
She was preceded in death by her parents (Hugh and Lurena Remington), her sister (Dorothy), and brother (Victor). Her husband of 71 years, Don Hall, passed away December 3, 2013.
She is survived by three children, Donald Douglas Hall and wife Susie of Rainer, Oregon, Gary Eugene Hall of White Salmon, Washington, and Peggy L Ashford and husband Harold of Bend, Oregon. She is also survived by four grandchildren; John Hall and wife Jusenta, Kevi Berger and husband Eric, Teresa Ashford and wife Ciara, and Kathryn Ashford and husband, Bradley, in addition to six great-grandchildren.
Family and friends are invited to the Graveside services and a celebration of her life on March 7th at 11am at the Odd Fellows Cemetery in The Dalles. Memorial donations can be made in her name to The Mid-Columbia Medical Foundation in The Dalles.
