Orlena Elizabeth Walston Boyd, born July 6, 1922 in Dufur, Oregon. Daughter of the late Charles and Minnie Guinther Walston of The Dalles, Oregon. Orlena grew up on the family farm and attended Upper Eight Mile Elementary School. She graduated from The Dalles High School. Attended business schools in La Grande and Portland, Oregon. She worked at the Swan Island Shipyards during WWII. After the war she was employed and retired from Mobil Oil Co. (Exxon Mobil). She married J. Bruce Boyd in 1951 in Portland, Oregon at Saint Michaels and All Angels Episcopal Church. They were married for 55 years, when Bruce died suddenly.
Orlena volunteered for many non-profit organizations which she truly enjoyed; Salem Hospital Auxiliary, Assistance League of Salem, Oregon Symphony Assoc., Garten Resource Development, PEO Sisterhood Chapter CQ, Salem and Keizer Rotary Auxiliary. She was a charter member of University Hospital Fellows at OHSU. Orlena was active at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, where she served on the altar guild for many years and St. Ann’s Guild. She also served on the Episcopal Diocese of Oregon Women’s Board.
She enjoyed many trips that she and Bruce took to foreign countries and within the United States. Orlena was blessed with a loving family and friends.
Services will be 2:00 PM on Thursday, March 12, 2015 at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Salem. Donations may be made to Doernbecher Children’s Hospital, Salem Hospital Foundation, St. Paul’s Episcopal Church or charity of your choice.
Orlena will be interred with her beloved husband, Bruce, at Willamette National Cemetery in Portland, Oregon. Assisting the family is Virgil T. Golden Funeral Service.
