Mary Helen Beck, 93, a resident of The Dalles, Oregon died Saturday, March 7, 2015.
Mary was born August 18, 1921 in Lawrence Massachusetts to Arthur and Mary (Clark) Duckworth, and was raised and educated in Newton Massachusetts. After graduating from high school, Mary served in the U.S. Army from 1943 to 1945. On February 19, 1945 she and Ivon Beck were married in Washington DC having met at a USO dance when she was working at the Pentagon and Ivon was stationed at Patuxent River Naval Air Station.
They moved to Oregon where they resided in Portland and Seaside for several years and then settled in The Dalles, Oregon in 1957. Mary worked as a medical clerk for the State of Oregon Welfare Division. She enjoyed cats, reading, knitting and playing cards with friends. She also enjoyed her travels throughout the United States and her trip to Denmark.
Mary was preceded in death by her son Richard and brother Arthur Duckworth.
She is survived by her husband Ivon of The Dalles, Oregon, son Alan Beck and his wife Karen of Warrenton, Oregon and daughter Kathy Beck of Portland, Oregon. Two grandchildren Michelle and Daniel and one great grandchild Travis also survive.
Memorial Service will be held at The Springs at Mill Creek Point at 11:00 on Saturday March 21, 2015
Interment will be at Willamette National Cemetery in Portland, Oregon.
