Faith M. Ashley Wilson was born at Sherar's Bridge, Ore., on December 3, 1919, the much-loved youngest child of Roby & Pearl Ashley. She spent her childhood years in the idyllic rural setting of Tygh Valley, Ore., where she loved helping her father Roby with farm chores, and where she spent her idle hours roving the countryside for miles on horseback and swimming in the waters of White River with her older sister Alva. Faith attended school at Tygh Valley, Maupin & Dufur. She married Wallace Edmund (“Bo”) Wilson on August 19, 1939. The two met at a country dance, where he was captivated by “the little twinkle in her eye.” No two people have ever been more in love over the course of a lifetime. Faith and Bo's especially close and companionable marriage union was a notable inspiration to all who knew and loved them.
Faith enjoyed keeping a home, and executed this task with expertise and aplomb that elevated the undertaking to an art form – one through which she expressed her love for her husband and the many guests who basked in her hospitality and were blessed by her magnificent cooking. She also loved to garden, and had a unique connection with the living things she planted, which sprang out of the soil with a lush eagerness as if hearkening to the call of a green-thumbed pied piper. She and Bo had many adventures in travel, from summertime jaunts in their little Volkswagen Beetle, to explorations in Europe including Ireland and Scotland.
Faith's urbanely gracious manners and smart sense of style belied her rural background, but by her genuine warmth and love of people you could tell she was dyed-in-the-wool country. She was a fiercely loyal person - time was no match for her strong attachments, and as long as she was physically able, she would regularly visit and tend to the graves of her dearly departed. But now she has joined their ranks.
Faith passed away in Bend on November 18, 2015. She was preceded in death by her parents, her sister Alva Mahaffey, her brother Fred Ashley, her beloved husband Bo, and most recently by her cherished nephew, Freddy Ashley. She is survived by her niece Frankie Paulson of Portland and her nephew Jay Mahaffey of Buhl, Idaho.
We will honor Faith's memory with a graveside service at Pilot Butte cemetery on Tuesday November 24, 2015 at 2 p.m. (Further information is available by contacting Niswonger-Reynolds Funeral Chapel.)
