Edwina Joan Bailey, 94, a resident of The Dalles, Ore., died Wednesday, July 27, 2016 at a local hospital.
Edwina was born December 29, 1921 in The Dalles, Ore., the second of two girls to Walter and Mabel (Shearer) Ohlegschlager, who were owners of Uncle Walt’s Place. She was raised and educated in The Dalles, attending Mill Creek Elementary and graduating from The Dalles High School in 1940. On November 24, 1940 she and Donald Withers Bailey were married in The Dalles, Ore. Edwina was a member of the United Church of Christ Congregational, Daughters of the American Revolution, Mill Creek Grange and a Red Cross Blood Donor. She was also an election volunteer, 4-H Leader and active with cub scouts. She enjoyed knitting, crocheting, puzzles and singing.
Edwina was preceded in death by her husband of sixty-one years Don Bailey, daughter-in-law Kay Bailey, grandson Art Howell and sister Winiford.
She is survived by her children, Bob and Barbara Bailey of The Dalles, Ore.; Betty and Riley Moore of Graham, Wash.; Ken and Shirley Bailey of The Dalles, Ore.; Shirley Miller of The Dalles, Ore.; Tom and Becky Bailey of The Dalles, Ore.; Cheryl and Juan Ortega of The Dalles, Ore.; Gloria and Jeff Brain of Bonney Lake, Wash., and Jon and Marie Bailey of The Dalles, Ore.; her grandchildren, Brenda Thomas, Bridget Bailey; Tim, Linn, and Benjamin Moore; Kevin, Diana, and Donna Bailey; Mike Bailey, Kris Belles; Eduardo, Alicia, David, and Roger Ortega; and Beau, Sean, Andrea, Isaac, and Emily Bailey. Twenty-three great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.
Private Interment was held at the I.O.O.F. 18th Street Cemetery. A Celebration of Edwina’s Life will be held at a later date.
