Norman Dion Nelson (“JR”), 65, of The Dalles, passed away suddenly on Wednesday, November 23rd, 2016. Norm grew up in Prineville and The Dalles, graduating from Crook County High School. He later
went on to marry his wife, Laurie, and operated Nelson Exhaust in The Dalles for nearly 20 years. After
closing the exhaust shop, he transported fruit for various orchardists and vineyards in the area.
Norm enjoyed spending time with his wife and kids, at Prineville Reservoir, and was a staple at many
area dragstrips and speedways. He was always known for having cool and clean cars. Norm’s sense of
humor and “my way or the highway” attitude will be sorely missed.
He is survived by his wife of over 33 years, Laurie Nelson, of The Dalles, children Norman “Andy” Nelson and Kayla Nelson, both of Mooresville, NC, his sister Carrie Nelson of Hood River, and several nieces that he loved dearly.
He was preceded in death by his father Norman Dee Nelson, mother Mary Kathryn Chavis, and brother
Mark Nelson. The family is planning a celebration of life at a later date.
