After 91 years of wonderful life, Georgia Lee (Marvel) Mead of Dufur passed away on January 27, 2016 at the Mid-Columbia Medical Center. Georgia was born on May 2, 1924 in Boyd, Oregon to George Arthur Marvel and Kathryn Elizabeth (Burtner) Marvel.
Georgia was raised in the Boyd/Dufur area and graduated from Dufur High School in 1942. After high school she was employed a JC Penney’s in The Dalles. She was known for her continuous support of and involvement in the community throughout her life. She was Grand Marshall for several local events and celebrations. She loved being involved in the festivities.
Involvement in the Christian church was an important part of her life and helped keep her in touch with the Lord. Georgia had a love for her cats, flower gardens and the beautiful view of Mount Hood from her Dufur home. She was nostalgic about the past and loved to visit and talk with anyone who had time to share. She was co-owner of the Dufur RV Park with her Husband of 38 years, Grant Mead.
She graciously welcomed travelers to Dufur and strove to make them feel at home. Social events, such as, weekly Potlatch, school activities, Jam Sessions at the Grange and family gatherings were important to Georgia. For decades she was a loving supporter of activities at the Dufur schools. She supported the Dufur Alumni Association and the Dufur Historical Society with pictures and yearbooks.
She loved watching her children, grandchildren, and family friends enjoy the opportunities a small school can provide.
She is survived by her husband Grant Mead of Dufur, brother Fritz Marvel wife Sharon of Madras, sister Linda Marvel husband Chuck Mies Olympia, Washington, son Douglas Frantz wife Janice Tigard, Oregon, daughter Patricia Bailey husband Coby The Dalles, Oregon, daughter Margi Tipton husband Steve Salem, Oregon, sons Eldon Mead wife Shirline The Dalles, Oregon, Bill Mead wife Kim Maupin, Oregon, Joe Mead wife Laurie Soldotna, Alaska. She has 28 Grandchildren, numerous great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Georgia is proceeded in death by father George A. Marvel, mother Kathryn E. (Burtner) Marvel, first husband, Willis Ray Frantz and son, George Edward Frantz.
A Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held at the Dufur Christian Church 315 NE Harrison Dufur, Oregon 97201 on Saturday February 6, 2016 at 1:00 PM. A fellowship time will follow at the Old Methodist Church (Potlatch) next door. Georgia's welcoming smile and wave from her little red "Mule" will be greatly missed by all.
