Richard “Dick” Alan Anderson, 83, passed away at home, in The Dalles, on July 4, 2016. Born June 26, 1933 in Waterloo, Iowa to Orval & Wanda (Welcher) Anderson. He was preceded in death by his parents, an older brother Eugene, and a son Richard, Jr born of his first marriage. Dick was also preceded in death by his second wife, Vivian, of 23 years at her passing.
Following high school, Dick served in the Navy, attended Drake University, and eventually moved to the Northwest.
Dick moved to The Dalles in 1985 from Idaho Falls, Idaho where he worked as a car salesman for the Schultens dealership, coming here to take over the Volkswagen portion of Schultens Motors.
Dick later met widow Vivian Nelson whom he married on July 4, 1991.
Following Dick’s retirement from Schultens Motors, the couple loved to travel, spending many winters on South Padre Island, Texas with friends.
Dick is survived by his step-children Beverly (Tom) Davis of Salem, Donna Bowman of Keizer; Rick Nelson, The Dalles; Julie (Jon) Lanctot, Portland; and longtime friend & care provider Sherlene Bowen, The Dalles; as well as grandchildren & great-grandchildren.
Dick’s request was for no memorial service with private cremation.
Memorials may be made to the Salvation Army in Dick’s name.
