John M. Haupt died May 7, 2016 in Minneapolis, Minn. Born September 5, 1922 on the family farm to Nicholas & Frances (Biehl) Haupt, John attended Arlington schools and St. John’s University in Collegeville, Minn. After serving in the US Navy as a Lieutenant Junior Grade in both the Atlantic & Pacific aboard LST 616, he returned to marry his sweetheart, Janet Dvorak, only daughter of Wenceslaus & Sophia (Rynda) Dvorak of Montgomery, Minn.
John taught history at Huntley High School and coached the Huntley & Holy Trinity basketball teams. In 1950, he was hired by Green Giant Company and worked in Watertown, Winsted, Blue Earth & Le Sueur, Minn., and in Rosendale & Ripon, Wisc., as plant superintendent.
An active member of the Catholic Church and member & past president of Rotary Club, John also served as Mayor of Ripon for 12 years. He was a Hospice volunteer for 30 years and lovingly cared for Janet during the last seven years of her life.
Survivors include sons Gregory (Cara Beames), Steven (Eva Seidel), Richard (Heidi Blackburn), daughters Mary Haupt Rabe (Doug), Patricia Haupt (Jim Wygle), Margaret Haupt (Tom Herrera), Australian AFS daughter Jill Campbell L’Estrange (Tim), granddaughters Elise Haupt (Reed Delapp), Beth Haupt & great-grandson Alex, Nora Robinson (Reed), grandsons Anthony Haupt (Michelle Chait) & Jonathan Haupt (Sarianna), brothers-in-law Robert & Earl Dvorak, sisters-in-law Carolyn & Mercedes Dvorak and many nieces & nephews. John was preceded in death by his brothers Francis & Joseph, sister Bernice (Nix) and brothers-in-law Lyle, Claus, Alvin, Clayton, William & Donald Dvorak.
A celebration of this loving father’s life will be June 18, 2016 at Saint Anne’s Catholic Church in Le Sueur, Minn. John will be buried with military honors at Calvary Cemetery.
