He was born August 8, 1950 in Myrtle Point, Ore., to Alan Claire (Baker) Zimmerman and Terrance Lynn O’Brien. He passed May 17, 2016 at OHSU in Portland, Ore., surrounded by his family.
Michael grew up in Fossil, Ore., and graduated from Wheeler High school in 1968. Michael served in the US Navy from March 20, 1969 to January 15, 1973 aboard the USS Navasota (AO-106).
Michael spent the majority of his life in The Dalles, Ore., with his wife Patricia. He was a business owner/operator of Zim's Brau Haus in downtown The Dalles for 35+ years, and was recently employed at The Dalles Country Club as groundskeeper.
He enjoyed hobbies such as billiards, Harley riding, fishing, hunting, rafting, camping and cooking. Michael was a long-standing member of The Dalles Eagle's Lodge.
Survived by his children, Michael O'Brien Jr., Kaycee Rauwerdink (O'Brien), Patrick O'Brien, Jennifer Sanders (O'Brien), Stacy Marsh (Wonzer); his siblings, Terry Ignowski, Kristy Brown, Scott O'Brien, Phillip Zimmerman, Shari Neff, and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, and beloved in-laws.
Preceded in death by his wife, Patricia O'Brien, his mother, Alan Claire Zimmerman, his father, Terrance Lynn O’Brien, his step-father, Floyd Zimmerman, and his brother Mark Alan Zimmerman.
A gathering for a celebration of life for Michael S. O'Brien will be held Saturday, June 18, at 11:30 a.m. Meet at Eagle's lodge: 2006 W 7th St, The Dalles, OR 97058, to form procession to Park Lawn cemetery: 2565 Three Mile Rd., The Dalles, OR 97058, graveside service at 12 p.m. to be followed by reception back at The Dalles Eagle's lodge.
Donations in lieu of flowers can be made payable to The Dalles Eagle's Lodge in memory of Michael S. O'Brien.
