Dean Orville Ruggles

Dean Orville Ruggles

March 22, 1947 - May 28, 2016

Dean Orville Ruggles, 69 years young, born on March 22, 1947, passed on Saturday, May 28, 2016 in the comforts of his own home, leaving behind a God-loving family, Catherine Ann Ruggles, his spouse of 17 golden years, and his two children and one grandchild, Rosanna Lynn Ruggles, 34 and his son Jesse Dean Ruggles, 31 years old and little Oliver, just 5 years old.

Dean was a loving family man and a devoted husband. He was committed to his community by way of the Sherman County Historical Society and a devout Christian and Sunday school teacher for any and all that cared to share. He was a published author, collector, hunter and craftsman, building not one, but two family homes and renovating a third. He enjoyed being a rancher and was an active student on life, reading and learning anything he could get his hands on, from science fiction to do it yourself manuals, to literary books on Christ his Lord and Savior. He was a man of countless skills and incredible knowledge.

Anybody that knew Dean knew he had a smile to give and a story to share. He had the power to win a crowd and the power to impress a scholar. He was a creative, learned and loving man. His heart was as wide as the Mississippi and as deep as the Columbia Gorge. When God decided it was his time, there is no doubt he grabbed the Lord by his outstretched arm and walked into the grace and magnificence of Heaven. His loving memory is forever immortalized by those who knew him best.

His burial was held at Moro Cemetery on Saturday June 4, and his Celebration of Life Memorial will be held at Maupin Community Church at 490 5th St. in Maupin on July 9, 2016 at 2 p.m., where we will provide food and drinks for those that want to share memories.

Dean may be leaving this world behind, but his footprint on our hearts will last forever. It is with faithful joy in our hearts we celebrate him and ask anyone and everyone who would like to share memories and stories with his family and friends to attend the Celebration on July 9, 2016.
