Doris Abrams, 85, a resident of The Dalles, Ore., passed away February 20, 2016 at a local hospital.

Doris was born April 9, 1930 in San Francisco, Calif., to Otis and Doris (Rudisill) McCorkle.

At age eleven she moved to Georgia and graduated from Toccoa Falls Bible College in 1950. She received her nurses training in San Francisco and then joined Wycliffe Bible Translators in 1954.

On December 21, 1956 she and Norman Abrams were married in Manila, Philippines. She resided in The Philippines from 1956 until 1970 where she served as a Bible Translator with Wycliffe Bible Translators.

She returned to the U.S. in 1970 and resided in numerous locations, to include, Santa Barbara, Calif.; Mill Valley, Calif.; Grants Pass, Ore.; Berkeley, Calif.; Portland, Ore.; Cave Junction, Ore.; Tulare, Calif.; Lodi, Calif.; Albuquerque, N.M., and The Dalles, Ore.

Doris was a member of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church and enjoyed studying church history. Doris was a devout Christian and was passionate about Bible studies.

She enjoyed reading, studying architecture and art, gardening and painting.

Doris was preceded in death by her husband Norman in 2011.

She is survived by her daughter, Saliha Abrams; son, Barry Abrams, and grandchildren, Jacob and Sara.

Graveside services will be held Saturday, March 5, 2016 at 1 p.m. at the I.O.O.F. 18th Street Cemetery.
