Russell Allen Richardson passed away on Saturday, March 5, 2016 surrounded by his children, grandchildren and loved ones. He was 85. Russ was born January 10, 1931 in Willamina, Ore., to Robert Allen Richardson and Beth Verdin Richardson. He was the third of four children, Ken Richardson of Vancouver, Wash., Gloria Oltman (deceased) and Lowell Richardson (deceased). The family later relocated to Goldendale, Wash., to a family farm on Horseshoe Bend Road. Russ joined the Navy in 1949 and served until 1953. During his service he traveled to many areas of the world including Korea, Japan, Thailand, Hawaii and Alaska. He was very proud to serve his country during the Korean War. After returning from the service to Goldendale, he met the love of his life Arlene Bridgefarmer. Russ and Arlene married in 1955. They had four children, Jeff Johnson (deceased), Steve Johnson, Patti Riches, and Linda Hrigora. Russ worked a variety of jobs including the Richfield Service Station, Safeway stores in Pendleton and Enterprise, Ore., the Sentry Market and Goldendale Tire Store and Boise Cascade where he worked until the mill closed. Russ enjoyed many hobbies including bowling, fishing, hunting and wood working. He and Arlene enjoyed square dancing, traveling and spending winters in Arizona.
Russ is preceded in death by his wife Arlene, son Jeff and his sister Gloria Oltman and brother Lowell Richardson. He is survived by his children and their spouses Steve and Nancy Johnson of Honey Brook, Pennsylvania, Pattie and Brian Riches of Vancouver, Washington, Linda and Dale Hrigora of The Dalles, Oregon and grandchildren Jerrad and Brenton Adams, Jeff Johnson, Jason Brokaw, Carmen Hrigora and great grandchildren Gavin and Owen Adams.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, March 11, 2016 at Columbia Hills Memorial Chapel in Goldendale. A reception will follow at the American Legion in Goldendale.
