Monty Lew Mathie, at the age of 79, passed away on May 11, 2016 at his home in Lake Oswego, Ore.
Monty was born on July 29, 1936 in Blackfoot, Idaho to LaMont & LaRue Mathie. He was the oldest of four children, Velma Mathie Jenson, Lee Mathie & Ray Mathie. He had countless stories of how he loved growing up on the farm and going on adventures on the Snake River with his siblings, even if they got into a little trouble.
As he grew into a young man and went off to Idaho State University, where he majored in Geology, he continued his adventures. Hunting and fishing with his friends at all times of the year. Heading out for weekends in the winter in Sun Valley, Idaho for a couple days of skiing with his buddies. One summer was spent working as a park ranger in Yellowstone National Park. There was no doubt that this was a man who had a zest for life and all that it had to offer.
Monty was a husband, father, grandfather, and even great grandfather. He is survived by his wife Jackie Mathie, and his first wife, Denice Daniels and their four sons Mark (Kathy) Mathie (CA), Mike Mathie (CO), Todd (Claudia) Mathie (NM), Derek Mathie (OR), and his children with Jackie: Matt Mathie (OR) & SuZan (Cory) Rea (OR).
Monty had many wonderful friends in The Dalles that he will miss dearly.
There will be a Celebration of Monty’s Life on May 28th from 3pm – 6pm at the LDS Church on 14903 Westlake Drive, Lake Oswego, OR, 97035.
