Jesse B. Newman passed away at Good Samaritan Hospital in Portland, Ore., on October, 11, 2016, surrounded by loving family. He was born to Willie B. and Evie Sue (Kerr) Newman on 10/20/30 in Enid, Mississippi, and was the oldest of their five children. After graduating high school, Jesse joined the United States Navy on June 17, 1949, which allowed him to see the world and served on the destroyer USS Harry E. Hubbard. He completed active duty on June 11, 1953 and continued his service in the reserves until his honorable discharge in 1957.
Jesse spent 34 years working for United States Gypsum Corporation in Mississippi, Oregon, Washington and Idaho. A multiple President's Award winner for top salesman, he was highly respected by peers, customers, and associates.
Jesse is survived by his wife of sixty years Paula (Bracher) Newman, Dallesport, Wash., sons Jim, Pasco, Wash., Ken, Hood River, Ore., Paul, San Jose, Calif., and their families, and is preceded in death by his daughter Sue. He is also survived by 8 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren.
