Arthur (Art) Clause Buether, was born November 28, 1933, in the Dalles, Ore., to Wilhelm (Bill) and Kate Buether. Art spent the first six years of his life on a farm east of Grass Valley. Art’s Dad, Bill Buether then moved Kate, Art and 2 year old Gertrude to the Kopke Farm where Art and his family have resided ever since.
Art graduated from Sherman High School and then attended Oregon State University where he received a Bachelor’s degree in Agricultural Science. Immediately after graduating from college, Art spent two years serving his country in the Army. He spent some of that time overseas in Korea.
Art’s life WAS being a farmer and rancher. He grew grains and raised beef cattle. Art was an innovator when it came to his agriculture. Over 30 years ago, Art was already working with no-till farming practices and exploring ways to continually improve his cattle herd. Those who knew Art and Gertrude, would smile about their “pets.” How gentle their cows were was widely known. OSU awarded him a lifetime achieve award for his commitment to Agriculture as well. Art was extremely well read, could give you facts and answers on a broad array of topics. He was a very kind and generous man. Always had a smile on his face and was willing to help out anyone who asked. The Veterans home in The Dalles told his family numerous times what a gentle soul he was and what a pleasure it was to have him there.
Art was also giving of his time for his community. He served on several boards, including the FSA and was one of the original board members of the South Sherman Fire and Rescue when it was formed.
Art was preceded in death by his father, Bill and mother Kate. He is survived by his sister Gertrude and close friends who loved him.
Arrangements are in care of Spencer Libby & Powell Funeral Home.
