James “JB” A. Barnhouse

April 10, 1930 - August 13, 2016

James A. “JB” Barnhouse was born on April 10, 1930 in The Dalles, Ore and passed away of natural causes on August 13, 2016 at the age of 86.

He was born to Reber and Hallie (Roper) Barnhouse. He graduated from The Dalles High School and attended college at the University of Washington.

James married Gretchen Stiefel on September 14, 1951 in The Dalles and was married to her for 64 years and 11 months.

James was in the US Navy and was then the owner of Sunset Motors in The Dalles retiring in 1983.

James was very active and belonged to many organizations and clubs including; The Dalles Elks, The Dalles Country Club, of which he was the past president, The Dalles Yacht Club, of which he was the past commodore, Oregon Auto Dealer insurance trust, of which he was past president, Oldsmobile Dealer’s council and a member of the Zion Lutheran Church.

James leaves behind many family members and loves ones. His Wife Gretchen (The Dalles), Three sons, Pete (Milwaukie, Ore), Dan (Terrie) (The Dalles), Tom (Deanna) (Dufur), grandchildren, Brandie Blanco (McMinnville), Karissa (Erik) Peterson (Carlton, Ore), Jerett (Portland), Katie (Bryon) Feely (Damascus, Ore), Sarah Barnhouse (Casa Grande, Ariz.), Adam (Emily) (The Dalles), 6 ½ greatgrandchildren, and Reba Lloyd (Dufur), sister, Joseph and sister-in-law Caroline Huber (The Dalles), six nieces and 3 nephews.

James was preceded in death by his father, mother, a brother Ted, sister-in-law Nedine and nephew Billy.

At Jim’s request no services were held. Donations or contributions may be made in his honor at Home at Last or a charity of your choice.
