Alan Wood was born, November 11, 1941 in Astoria, Ore. He passed away in loving care at "Our House", Portland, Ore., on August 29, 2016.
Alan graduated from The Dalles High school with honors in 1959 and from the University of Oregon as an honor student and teacher of English and Theater.
He taught high school in Eugene where he acted in community theater in the musical production of "Fidler on the Roof" and also in "1776".
Alan left Eugene for Los Angeles to seek a place in professional theater. He resided in LA for many years as a medical transcriber for the legal field.
Upon the illness of his mother, Alice, he returned to The Dalles to care for her.
Upon her death he moved to Portland, always in the company of one of his dogs.
Alan thoroughly enjoyed his classical music and the company of lifelong friends, most recently, Eric Landon and Sam Muller.
He was a volunteer at "Our House" in his SE Portland neighborhood where he spent the last month of his life.
Alan was predeceased by his father, Jack R. Wood and his mother, Alice (Freese) Wood of The Dalles.
He is survived by brother, Doug (Roberta) Wood of Green Valley, Ariz., and cousin Carla Chamberlain of The Dalles. Also he is survived by nieces and nephews and their children of St. Helens, and Portland, Ore.
There will be a Celebration of Life at "Our House". 2727 SE Alder, Portland on Tuesday, September 6 at 4 p.m.
Internment will be at St. Peters Catholic Cemetery, The Dalles, Ore.
