Bert was born in Fruita, Colo., on December 29, 1926 to Albert Sr. and Pearl Long. He had two older sisters Pauline and Evelyn and one younger one Norma who lives in Spokane, Wash.

Bert went to Loma Grade School and Fruita High School in Colorado. He joined the Navy in 1944 and was discharged in 1946. His Navy training was at Great Lakes and after a short leave at home he was assigned to a U.S. cargo ship “The Talita” which took him to the South Pacific and Japan. He was discharged from the Navy Aug. 15, 1946 at the Navy Pier in Chicago.

He then traveled to Bickleton, Wash., to work for his brother in law at the Bickleton Garage. It was there that he met Jean Read and they were married Nov. 7, 1948. Jean passed away Nov. 22, 2015 after a fall caused brain damage.

Bert is survived by his sister Norma and her husband Clyde Rogers as well as many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews and great-grandnieces and nephews.

Memorial services will be held at Moro Community Presbyterian Church on Sat. Oct. 1, 2016 at 11 a.m. Spencer, Libby and Powell Funeral Home in care of arrangements.
