Eilene Garlen Brown, a long time resident of Portland, Ore., died on Jan. 12, 2017. She was 88.
Eilene was born in Dufur, Ore., on July 23, 1927, to Everett Loren and Vena Estella (Gardner) Winnett. Her early years were spent on a ranch near Wasco. She moved to The Dalles to attend high school and it was there that she met the love of her life, Robert M. (Bob) Brown.
Eilene graduated from The Dalles High School in 1945, and when Bob entered the University of Oregon, Eilene moved to Eugene and worked as a bank teller while he attended classes. Eilene and Bob were married on July 15, 1948. They moved to The Dalles, where Bob joined his father in the family business. The family moved to Portland in the mid-1950’s after the death of Bob’s father. Bob opened Bob Brown Oldsmobile on S.E. Grand in Portland in 1964.
Eilene and Bob were married for 44 years. They had four children, Susan, Steve, Ed and Jim.
Eilene was preceded in death by her parents; brother Loren in 1958; husband Bob in 1993; son Steve in 2007; and son Ed in 2008.
She is survived by her sister, Lola Jane Powell of Pendleton; daughter Susan and son Jim, both of Portland. She is also survived by grandchildren; great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
A private committal was held.
