Donna Niswender Schnell of The Dalles, Ore., passed away at home May 23, 2017, with her beloved children by her side.
Donna was born in The Dalles, the third of three daughters to Don and Dorothy Niswender on October 12, 1959. She spent her youth in Hood River and then Maupin both in Oregon. After graduating from high school, she spread her wings; moving to Bend, Ore.; then on to Maui, Hawaii; Girdwood, Alaska; and finally home to Maupin.
While on Maui she met Scott Schnell, together they were blessed with two children.
In 2002, she moved with her children to The Dalles, where through her hard work she was able to purchase a home. Donna’s life was devoted to her children and her family; she was always the rock everyone could rely on. She touched many lives, she had a kind heart, and was loved by all. She could always be counted on for a good laugh.
Donna is survived by her children: Jess Schnell, The Dalles, Ore.; Jenna Schnell, Portland, Ore.; sisters, Debbie Smith (Craig), Salem, Ore., and Doreen Brittain, Maupin, Ore.; father, Don Niswender, Hood River, Ore.; step-father, Terry Ziegenhagen, Maupin, Ore.; three nephews, Ryan Smith, Lyle and Jared Brittain; niece Miranda Olson; a great niece and two great nephews.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Dorothy Niswender, ex-husband Scott, and grandparents Jess and Virginia Hansen.
A celebration of Donna’s life will be held June 17 at 11 a.m. in the Maupin Grade School gym, followed by a potluck lunch at the Maupin Legion Hall.
Arrangements are by Spencer, Libby and Powell, The Dalles, Ore.
Memorials may be made in Donna’s name to Home at Last.
