Sylvia Sawyer, 89, a longtime resident of The Dalles, Ore., passed away peacefully at Flagstone Care Facility on Nov. 1, 2017.
Sylvia was the oldest of two children, born to Lloyd and Irene Moss, in Okanagan, Wash. She is survived by her brother, Ronald (Bud) Moss his wife Pat and their three children, Brian, Gary and Greg.
Sylvia graduated from Okanagan High School, where she was yell captain and excelled in music.
She married Earl Sawyer on Sept. 30, 1946, and was marred for 61 years, until his passing March 2008.
She was an active member of Gateway Presbyterian church for 60 years; many of those years she handled the worship music, as well as serving in other capacities in the church. She also sang in the church choir, as well as community choir, plus weddings and funerals.
She was a loving mother and wife who loved attending her son’s music and sporting events.
She is survived by her children, Rod, Vancouver, Wash.; Doug (Debra) The Dalles; four grandchildren, Lance Sawyer, Samantha (Nigel) Joseph, Stacy (Jeremy) Cox, Lisa (Ever) Bravo; great-grandchildren, Aaron, Aaliyah Maguire, Ryenne Taylor, Parker Via, Vinny .

Private burial will be held at the Odd Fellow Cemetary.
A celebration of life will be Nov. 18, 3 p.m. at The Dalles Country Club. Food and beverages will be provided.
