Thurman Doyle Cantrell Jr. born April 11th, 1944 in Los Banos, California “CROSSED OVER INTO THE ARMS OF GOD” on September 2nd, 2017, while at home in The Dalles.

Thurman was the fourth born to Thurman D. and Marcelle (McClintock) Cantrell. Thurman, along with his two brothers and sister, were raised in Dos Palos, California. He graduated from Dos Palos High and shortly joined the U.S. Army in 1965. Thurman met and married his first wife Janice in Tennessee, started a family and fathered two sons, Thurman D. the 3rd and Joey Cantrell. While serving his country Thurman served in Korea and did two tours in Vietnam. Thurman had an honorable discharge September 1, 1972. Thurman returned to Tennessee to continue life with his family although the marriage was to end in divorce over the next few years. Thurman returned to his roots in Dos Palos, California, then moved on the explore life in The Dalles, Oregon, where he met and later married Nancy Armour (Cantrell). With that marriage he inherited three children: Tammy, Connie and Johnny Armour.

Thurman worked for Northwest Aluminum Goldendale and Northwest Aluminum The Dalles, Oregon, until they closed.

Thurman was a gentle giant! He was a big man with a bigger heart. He was a faithful husband, father, encourager to many. It was said he would take the shirt off his back at the drop of a hat and give it to anyone in need. His words were kindly spoken and very accepting of others. His children say “He was the Best!!”

Thurman leaves behind Nancy, his wife of thirty six years and the legacy of five children: Thurman and Joey Cantrell, Tammy (Mike) Denney of Salem, Ore., Connie Armour of The Dalles, Johnny (Cindy) Armour, Tri Cities, WA. Siblings: Randy (Sue) Cantrell, Spokane, WA, Chet (Jeanette) Cantrell, The Dalles, Tanya Allred, San Jose, California.

In-laws: Linda (Glenn) Miller, Parkdale, Oregon, Bonnie Coleman, The Dalles, Chuck (Julie) Coleman, Tri Cities, WA. Many grandchildren and great grand’s.

A Celebration of Life will be held September 16th, 2017 at 1:00 p.m. at Covenant Christian Church, 2630 E. 18th St., The Dalles, Oregon.
