Robert "Bob" Newson of The Dalles, Ore., passed away on Sept. 19, 2017, at Providence St. Vincent Hospital. Bob was born Aug. 11, 1949, in Portland, Ore., he was 68 at the time of his passing.
He graduated from The Dalles High School in 1969, then immediately joined the United States Army, where he served in the Vietnam War.
In July of 1974, he married wife Lori. He was a mechanic for Dick Hyde Imports, Thomas Motors and Ray Schultens Motors. Later, he worked for The Dalles Dam, Northwest Aluminum and the Oregon Cherry Growers before retiring.
He loved to archery hunt, camp, play cards with his family and bowl. He also loved to help people, especially senior citizens and kids.
He is survived by his wife Lori; children, Marty Hester, Patty (Chad) Wilmarth, and Dottie (Nathan) Hansen; grandsons, Jon Cox, Bradley Hester, Chad Hester, Quinn Hansen and Ethan Hansen; grand dog Foxy; siblings, Harold (Sally) Newson, Tom (Diane) Newson, Ron Newson, and Carol (John) Staniford; numerous nieces, nephews and in-laws.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Maurice and Shirley Newson.
A celebration of life will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 7, 2017, at The Dalles Civic Auditorium 323 E 4th St The Dalles, Ore.
To make a memorial in Bob's name do something helpful for someone in your neighborhood, especially a senior citizen.
