Ben was born in Escondido, San Diego County, Calif. His childhood was spent in Connecticut and Rhode Island before moving to the Dalles, Ore., in March of 1978.
Ben lived a life of adventure, fishing, hunting, skiing, snowboarding, driving his 1968 blue Camaro and anything that went fast.
Ben attended Petersburg Elementary School and Wahtonka High School, graduating in 1986. In high school Ben was a natural athlete, he excelled in track and wrestling. After high school, he began working at Columbia Aluminum and became an electrical apprentice and then a journeyman. He was licensed in Oregon, Washington and California. He was proud to be a member of the IBEW. He worked on many different jobs around the western states. He became a foreman while building windmills, a job he truly enjoyed. He traveled many miles and saw many places. He couldn’t wait to get home to Sevenmile, always with a smile and stories to tell. He was quick to make friends wherever he went.
Ben leaves behind his wife, Crystal Nickleson; sons, Joshua (Tara) Pray, Aaron Pray and Marco (Haley) Drader; parents, David and Tina Haynes; sister, Tammee (Damon) Wilson; brother, James (Joy) Nickleson; uncle, Aron Lee Nickleson; half-sisters, Karleen and Kimberlee; sisters-n-law, Carol (Phillip) Barnett and Lea (Kevin) Stephens; four grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews and close friends, all of whom had a piece of his heart.
