It is with great sadness that the family of Vera M. J. Ownbey Perkins announces her passing after a brief illness on Sunday, July 29, 2018, at the age of 91. Vera was born to Virgil and Alice Ownbey on July 24, 1927, in Joseph, Ore.
Vera will be lovingly remembered by daughters, Shannon Mayhew of Maupin, Ore., and Linda Perkins of Vancouver, Wash; brother-in-law, Ted Perkins, Madras, Ore.; five grandchildren, Marti Mayhew, Portland, Ore., Jacob Mayhew, Portland, Ore., Christine Mayhew Kirk Lacey, Wash., Josh Mayhew, Biggs, Ore. and Megan Perkins Winsor, Sandy, Ore.; three nieces, Sheri Melum, Pam Perkins and Terry Tucker; and numerous darling great-grandchildren who were dear to her heart.
Vera was preceded in death by the love of her life, her husband of 51-years, Rodney F. Perkins.
Vera enjoyed working in her rose gardens, spending time at Cherry Park Grange dancing and listening to her many friends play old-time gospel and country music. Vera was passionate about cooking delicious meals for her family who were precious to her heart.
A memorial service will be celebrated in Vera’s memory on Saturday, Aug. 18, at 1 p.m., at Cherry Park Grange, 3200 Old Dufur Road, The Dalles, Ore. A pie social will follow the memorial service.
Memorial donations in memory of Vera, may be made to Cherry Park Grange, of which she was a member, or Maupin Community Church, P.O. Box 157, Maupin, Ore. 97037.
