Robert “Bob” Harold Cosgrave passed away on February 22, 2018 in The Dalles, Oregon at the age of 92. He was born on January 4, 1926, to Harold and Alice (Lowary) Cosgrave in Fresno, California. He grew up on a farm in Sanger, California, with one younger brother, Richard. After earning his high school diploma, he was drafted into the army, serving in the Philippines. Upon returning from over-seas, he attended college and began farming.
Bob married Jane Wolf, the love of his life for 68 years. A dedicated father of two daughters, Linda and Sue, he loved camping, traveling, and teaching the girls to work hard on the farm. He raised cotton, alfalfa, peaches, plums and other crops. Later he became a real estate broker, and then owned and operated a stationary store. In all three occupations, Bob and Jane worked together.
After retiring, Bob and his wife Jane moved to The Dalles, Oregon, in 1985. Bob served many people in his community. He was an avid gardener, dedicated Bible study leader, volunteer with Habitat for Humanity and all-around handyman. Grandchildren were also a big part of his life.
Bob is preceded in death by his parents and brother. He is survived by his wife, Jane, and daughters, Linda Ashbrook and Sue Buchholz (DeVerne); grandchildren: Julie Ashbrook Deering, (Todd), Deanna Sudan, (Loren), Andrea Ashbrook, Lyle Railsback, Eric Railsback, and Emily Railsback; great grandchildren: Daxon Deering, Aira Deering, and Leo Sudan.
A celebration of life service was held at the First Christian Church in The Dalles on Wednesday, February 28th. Those wishing to honor Bob with contributions may make them to: The Dalles First Christian Church or Habitat for Humanity.
