Leo was the eighth of nine children, born to Zach and Martha Zachariasen in Lake Andes, S. D.
He is survived by wife, Alberta Joan; sons, Dean, Jim and Steve; daughters, Dona and Judi. He enjoyed 14 grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren, and four great-great grandchildren.
Leo started his career with the U.S. Corps of Engineers in S.D., serving as district president of the electrical workers union. He continued his career after transferring to John Day Dam. His work earned a special commendation from President Jimmy Carter.
Leo was an avid golfer, scoring four holes-in-one, of which he was very proud. That achievement earned him a place in the PGA golf Hall of Fame.
He served on the city council in Lake Andes and the Wasco County planning commission in The Dalles.
After retirement, Leo and Joan enjoyed many years of travel seeing the country.
Services will be held Wednesday, July 25, 2018, at 1 p.m. at Spencer Libby and Powell 1100 Kelly Avenue The Dalles, Ore.
