Truett D. Allen passed peacefully at home and went to be with the Father and his Son on Sunday, Feb. 18, 2018. He was born Oct. 12, 1917, in Petersburg, Texas, to John and Zona Dixon Allen.
In the 1920s the family moved to Evant, Texas, where Truett graduated from high school in 1936.
He served his county in the Cavalry as a sergeant for four years, partly in New Caledonia, breaking in wild horses for the invasion of Japan. He was a Southern Baptist minister for 58 years, an associational
missionary for two years and after retiring, he continued another five years serving as interim pastor and supplying for other churches.
He was 19 when asked to deliver his first sermon in Frio, Texas, while attending Eastern New Mexico University. Shortly thereafter, he was cal led to pastor the church. He started his first church in El Sobrante, Calif., as a mission while attending Golden Gate Theological Seminary, where he received
his Master of Religious Education in 1950. The church grew to be one o f the leading churches of the community. Other churches he pastored were in New Mexico, Sweet Home and Rufus, Ore., before retiring in The Dalles in 2000.
He was proceeded in death by wife, Evelyn Wilson Allen; brother, Merrill Allen; sisters, Marguerite Armentrout and Dorothy Hooker; and granddaughter, Kimberly Villeneuve. He is survived by children, Robert Allen of Odessa, Texas; John Allen, The Dalles, Ore.; Joyce Thornton, The Dalles; Ben Allen, Sweet Home; Stan Allen, Farmington N.M.; Ray Allen of Lebanon; brother, Weston Allen, Amarillo, Texas; 30 grandchildren; ten great grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; three nieces and
The family held a commemoration of his life in a private gathering Feb. 22, 2018.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the local Heart of Hospice.
