Donald Edward Knowland, 81, quietly passed away early Saturday morning, May 5, 2018, at his home with his family around him. He was born April 17, 1937, in San Francisco, Calif., to Donald Edward and Vinnie Zelda (Wichman) Knowland. The family move to Portland, Ore., when he was about four years old.
After graduation in 1955 from Franklin High School in Portland, Ore., Don joined the Air Force, serving from 1955 to 1959, with 18 months in Guam.
He worked with Equifax for several years, and after retirement, he worked as a general contractor, then worked for the Smithy Company in The Dalles.
He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, that he loved and was active in scouting, being a scoutmaster for several years. He enjoyed fishing with family and friends, telling big fish stories and loved music, drawing, inventing, building on his home, family gatherings, where he showed a great sense of humor.
His wishes were to be cremated and his ashes scattered in the Columbia river by his family. He is survived by his wife, Chris; sons, Corwin (Cathy) of Jefferson, Ore.; Randall (Lisa) of Vancouver, Wash.; Bradley (Darci) of Waikiacus Heights, Wash.; Samuel (Cyndi) of La Grande, Ore.; daughter, Carla (Scott) Randall of The Dalles; sister, Sandra Knowland (Fred) Conklin of Castle Rock, Wash.; 15 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Cremation arrangements were by Spencer Libby and Powell Funeral Home in The Dalles.
