Sister Helen Moore passed away on May 22, 2018, at Marie-Rose Care Center at Mary’s Woods. She was born in The Dalles, Ore., on Dec. 30, 1924, to Gertrude Fleck and George E. Moore. She was the seventh of 10 children.
She entered the Holy Names Convent at Marylhurst, Ore., in 1943, after graduating from St. Mary’s Academy in The Dalles. She taught school for over 60 years. She loved being a Holy Names nun, loved teaching, loved the children and had a special love for art.
Sister Helen was a gifted artist. Many of her paintings are in her family’s homes and many more grace the walls of Mary’s Woods at Marylhurst. She also made thousands of greeting cards from prints of her paintings.
She is survived by her two siblings, Agnes Moore Brown and Frances Moore McCall. She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, John, George and Robert Moore; sisters, Catherine Cowdrey, Gertrude Sheirbon, Mary Jones and Mildred Parsons. She was blessed with numerous nieces and nephews.
She leaves behind her special friends, Sister Helen Sandoz, Rev. Fr. Dick Berg and her family of Holy Names Sisters, whom she loved dearly. We will miss you Sister Helen. You were so special to all of us. God can take care of you now.
Her family is very grateful for the loving care she received at Mary’s Woods.
Services will be held Wednesday June 6 at 11 a.m., at the chapel of the Holy Names Lake Oswego, Marylhust.
