Roberta M. Heisler (nee Van Valkenburgh) passed away Sept. 3, 2018, at The Springs at Mill Creek in The Dalles, Ore.

Roberta was born in 1924 in Deer Creek, Okla., to Alvin Milford and Osie B. (Loveless) Van Valkenburgh. She grew up in Deer Creek in a family of 14 children, graduating from Deer Creek High School in 1942. She attended Northern Junior College at Tonkawa, Okla., and the University of Oklahoma. She met Donald E. Heisler when he was in the Oregon House of Representatives. They were married on March 25, 1945, and moved to The Dalles.

Roberta had a passion for cooking and entertaining and loved playing bridge in numerous bridge clubs. With her husband, Don, she enjoyed traveling, playing golf, playing cards, and camping. She was a member of PEO and The Dalles Country Club.

She was predeceased by her husband of 67 years, Don, six sisters and seven brothers. She is survived by her children, Stanley Heisler of Ridgefield, Conn.; David Heisler of Eugene, Ore.; Suzanne Weissman (Steve) of Albuquerque, N.M.; and Donna Stover (Phil) of Chandler, Ariz.. She was very proud of her grandchildren, Alison Stover (Scott Stayner) of Appleton, Wisc.; Benjamin Heisler; and Morgan Heisler of Eugene, Ore. She had two great-grandsons born in April, 2018, Eliot Richard (Leo) Stayner and Arthur Philip (Artie) Stayner of Appleton, Wisc.

The family would like to express their deepest gratitude and thanks to Doug LaFrenz and his family, Keli, Jacob, Isaac, and their dog Abbey, for the limitless care and compassion they gave to our mom for the last several years.

A celebration of life will be held at the First United Methodist Church, 305 E. 11th Street, The Dalles, Ore., 97058 at 11 a.m. on Monday, Sept. 10, 2018.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial gifts be made to The Dalles-Wasco County Library Foundation, 722 Court St., The Dalles, Ore., 97058 or Meals on Wheels, 1112 W. 9th St., The Dalles, Ore.
