Sous Chef Shawn Savage stirs a kettle in the University of Oregon central kitchen in Carson Hall April 18. Above his head is low-hanging duct work with caution signs to help prevent banged heads in the kitchen that opened after World War II. The university plans to replace it with a new $8.5 million kitchen. A new campus central kitchen is expected to displace University of Oregon student renters in a dozen tiny cottages put up after World War II.
