THE DALLES WAHTONKA senior Mika Hernandez cuts through the water in her run in the 100-yard butterfly event at Saturday’s Columbia River Conference district meet at the Hood River Aquatic Center. While competing against seven other swimmers in the finals, Hernandez tallied a personal record and a first-place rally of one minute and 8.96 seconds for her first-ever state qualification.

On the biggest stage in front of their contemporaries, The Dalles Wahtonka swimmers Erin Nelson and Mika Hernandez both knocked it out of the park. This dynamic duo grabbed top honors to go along with personal records, while Nelson completed the trifecta with a district record at Saturday’s 5A Columbia River Conference district swimming championships at the Hood River Aquatic Center.
