Flames spread along the Miller Island horizon in the Columbia River north of Sherman County this week. A low-intensity burn was used to consume the fuel and stop the fire inside a control line. Official reports indicate the forward spread of the fire has stopped and the fire remains at about 513 acres. According to Sherry Kaseberg, whose family has run cattle on the island, the fire burned the historic corral of the Miller Homestead.
