M.D. VAN VALKENBURGH stands in front of a massive teak backbar once owned by a madam from one of the houses of prostitution in The Dalles during the 1950s. Van Valkenburgh was instrumental in closing down the mafia-run brothels and purchased the piece at a closure sale.
