Ben Cox of Portland takes advantage of warm weather and a wind free river to stalk carp with his fly rod offshore from Riverfront Park. "You can see them rooting around. You have to get a fly down in front of their nose without spooking them," he explained. For a fly, "anything real buggy" is worth a try. His best fish, hooked just yesterday, was 15 or 16 lbs. The hard part, he noted, is spotting them, and get the fly close without spooking the fish.
