Bill Hamilton, a volunteer from “Fix it For Him,” works alongside a student in securing a corner of a 4-by-12-foot raised garden bed during a work party April 12, where staff, students and volunteers descended on Petersburg School to construct 16 raised planter beds for use by Wahtonka Community School students. The students will each garden their own 4-foot by 4-foot plot, learning how to grow a wide variety of plants from seed to harvest. Produce will be sold at the student-run school market, projected to start at the Wahtonka Campus in August. School staff of this new alternative high school opening in July are seeking volunteers who like to work with teens, and have a skill to share — anything from art and music to working with power tools and finishing concrete.
