CHEERLEADERS from The Dalles High School presented members of The Dalles Fire Department with a special thank you bags of goodies last week. In preparation for the 2014 -15 sports season, the cheerleaders were having practice on Wednesday night and had to cancel because the flames from the Rowena fire were getting dangerously close to Wahtonka Campus. TD coach Kristi Maley said the smoke was so thick it was hard to breathe. One of the cheerleaders had been evacuated earlier that day and two others had to run home in the middle of practice to get ready to evacuate. A few of the girls and parents got together late last weekend to do something nice for the fire fighters for their bravery and unwavering community service. “We just want to say thank you,” Maley said.
