Mary Batty, Mike Kilkenney, Lee Langston, Gary Conley, Dale Roberts and Lucile Stephens all correctly identified last weeks History Mystery photograph, above, as the Oregon Motor Hotel on the west end of Second Street in downtown The Dalles.
The photograph was scanned from a 4 by 5 inch negative from the archives of The Dalles Optimist. Negative was labled “Oregon Motor Hotel, Aug. 1948.” The optimist photographer at the time was George Lindsay.
Gary Conley said that prior to the motel, the Lindquist home was on the site, built on a “pile of rock.” “My brother took piano lessons there from his daughter, which is why I remember,” he said.
