Last week’s History Mystery photograph, above, was scanned from a 2¼-by-2¼-inch black-and-white negative from the archives of The Dalles Chronicle. Information on the envelope reads, “Country Club, Style Review, May 21, 1959.”
Charlote Atkinson said, “I believe this is Barbara Kelly. At The Dalles Country Club, they were putting on a silly fashion show. She is pictured in a Can-Can skirt.” The can-can is a risqué dance that was popular in the mid to late 1800s, and the cans making up the outfit were a spoof of that dance.
