Bill Johnson, Harold Egbert and Terray Harmon all contributed to this report.
Last week’s History Mystery, above, was scanned from a 2 1/4 by 2 1/4-inch negative from the archives of The Dalles Chronicle. Information on the envelope reads, “Parade, JC (July 4) 1976, on July 3.” A note states that the grand marshal was Marshall Flora Thompson.
Bill Johnson said the Model T is driven by Lloyd Bailey, an active collector of early Fords. The Dalles City Hall, covered in ivy, is visible in the background.
Harold Egbert also recognized Lloyd Bailey, in one of his old restored cars. “He enjoyed driving his cars in the parades,” Egbert remembered. “He loved antique cars and was widely known for his restoration of classic cars.”
All this is supported by Joan Hamilton, who wrote, “that's my uncle, Lloyd Bailey, driving his restored model T in what I assume is a parade. He and my dad, Steve Bailey, spent many hours restoring Model T's and Model A's from the 1950's through the 1990's.”
