Last week’s History Mystery, above, was scanned from a 2 and 1/4-inch by 2 and 1/4-inch black and white film negative from the archives of The Dalles Chronicle. Information on the envelope read, "Chronicle, offset plant, April 1965. In The Dalles.”
The photograph was taken inside what is now Oliver’s Floor Covering, located at 414 Federal Street. In the background at left, with a pipe, is long-time Managing Editor Jim Weeks, identified by his daughter Mary Jane (Weeks) Beer. “I spent a lot of time as a kid running around the newspaper office,” she remembered. “They had the presses in the back room then, and the teletype and all sorts of things.”
The presses were later moved to Hood River, and the Chronicle office moved to its current location at 315 Federal Street.
