Thank you, Esther. As a proud American myself, I hope our government will look inward at helping the people of our communities, raising the standard of living back to an appropriate level. The demise of our great middle class has occurred at the expense of tax breaks for corporations and the wealthiest of this country, while seeking to blame and effectively punish the poor for being poor. I appreciate your letter as a counter-balance to the baseless and misinformed rantings of the previous letter. It is good to know positive, hopeful people still live in The Dalles.
Let me guess, you think the moon landing was a hoax, too. So maybe you won't find this information helpful, considering it comes from the top climate scientists in the world: NASA

Ironic that for a newspaper/media guy Mr. Perea is unaware that the internet never forgets. His comments here are nearly identical to those of his press release when he arrived as publisher for the News Guard. Thanks for the generic take on all Oregon small towns. Fairly condescending from our point of view. Wondering if he'll stick around longer than his 2 years in Lincoln City. I'd say welcome, but if he doesn't care enough to generate fresh enthusiasm for The Dalles, I don't have much fresh enthusiasm to offer, either.
Thank you for alerting our residents to these issues.

The spray is nontoxic? By what definition? Is the spray organically certified? If not, it is hardly nontoxic.
How about just not printing these types of letters? They have nothing to do with the community at large. It would be better to read only about actual issues concerning The Gorge, not just general letters that make no real sense.
The whole idea of running coal trains and barges thru the Gorge is a HUGE mistake.
