Winter weather UPDATES December 12, 2013
The decision to allow this event should have NOTHING to do with "donations" in people's pockets and EVERYTHING to do with the law of the land we all were made to abide by. Upper Dufur Valley faces steep increases in fire, liability, and auto rates if decreed to be near a Venue area. The county requested more insurance coverage so what about the landowners near them at the greatest risk? If the essence of such strict zoning for just two people is protection of our wildlife overlay & to maintain the beauty/peace of the area, why does that not pertain to 5,000? And what about those people enjoying Ramsey Canyon or nearby areas of Mt. Hood National Forest? What type of experience does that give them? The ONLY way Mr. Boyd could pull this off was to put in improvements as though it were for his home and Wasco Planning, having previously visited the property and seeing he could not meet the parameters of this event, approved and directed the placement of new roads with the road commission under the guise of a residence access on COMMERCIALLY PURCHASED LAND! We all agree that is a direct violation that needs to be ethically reviewed immediately. The fact remains that had the Planning Department denied the changes upon this land for this event, it would have never taken place-that as it stood at time of application was NOT set up for a mass gathering - and that we have these laws in place to prevent such a thing from happening. This has crushed our family, immensely devalued our land & quality of life, prohibited my work in training service animals or working with those in need in a peaceful area any longer. I ask the people of Dufur and other areas to be honest about wanting this right next to them? We ask, should it not be on recreational lands where it hasn't the impact on us? Why is it OK that no contact was made to those with the most to loose up here early on in the process as the county viewed WTF property? Did anyone inquire how it might impact our work or life here? Is it too much to ask those of you who know us to stand up for us at then, or now? We cannot believe that the community we took to our hearts decades ago would take a blind eye to it because you cannot hear and feel it down there. If so, that is quite frankly the biggest let down of all.**
