I've been teaching Tai Chi for over 40 years here in the US and in the UK.
In that time I've taught in hospital rehabilitation departments as well as private setting, in large classes as well as giving individual instruction. Without doubt I have seen people with Parkinson's, Multiple Sclerosis, post stroke recovery, as well as victims of accidents and professional athletes make considerable improvement in their neuromuscular balance. I have also seen it do wonders for people suffering from depression and those with a weakened immune system. It is also an incredibly cost effective adjunctive medical therapy.
And I speak from personal experience as well in that as a child I had polio. I had the great good fortune to study with Professor Chen Man Ch'ing who said with a year I would make a full functional recovery. And I did.
I hope this encourages people to try Tai Chi.
